California becomes the first US state to ban the sale of non-rescue animals

Dec 31, 2018 14:37 IST

California will become the first US state to ban the sale of non-rescue animals. The law called 'The Pet Rescue and Adoption Act' will come into effect from the 1st of January and promotes the adoption of rescue animals including dogs, cats and rabbits from shelter homes. The new law will also discourage mass breeding of animals in poor conditions. Pet shops will now only sell rescued animals, making it necessary for them to mention the rescue shelter or agency the animal came from.
