Cairo's 109-year-old Baron Empain palace opens for visitors

Jul 01, 2020 09:47 IST

The 109-year-old Baron Empain Palace in Egypt has reopened its doors to visitors after almost three years of restoration work. This is the first time that repair work has been undertaken at the palace in over 100 years. The palace was designed by French architect Alexandre Marcel and is believed to have been inspired by the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Egyptian officials hope that the palace's opening will lure back tourists as the country gears up for the resumption of international flights in July.
