Bhogi, which is considered to be the first day of the Makar Sankranti festival, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. During the festival, people set up bonfires in the early hours, houses are decorated with beautiful rangolis and wooden logs are put on fire. Traditionally, oxen, all decked up, are taken on a ride and the dhol is played. Andhra Pradesh endowments minister Velampalli Srinivasa Rao celebrated the festival at his residence. Meanwhile Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu too celebrated Bhogi along with his family at Raj Bhawan, Goa.
