Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad and his supporters held a protest on Tuesday at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, where a 19-year-old Dalit girl from Uttar Pradesh's Hathras died days after being gang-raped. Azad urged the Dalit community to take to the streets and demand death penalty for the accused.
The girl was gang-raped a fortnight ago and she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. The accused, who had tried to strangle her to death as she resisted, have been arrested.
Holding the UP state govt equally responsible for the death of the 19-year-old, the Bhim Army chief said that they had asked the Yogi govt to shift her to AIIMS for better treatment. The Congress also held a protest against the gangrape and death.
