While energy drinks may get you all pumped up, they do the same to your heart! Consuming too much of such drinks within a short time span may increase your blood pressure and the risk of electrical disturbances in the heart. As a part of the study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, 34 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 40 years were made to drink 32 ounces of two kinds of caffeinated-energy drinks. Thereafter, their BP and electrical activity of the heart was measured. The results showed that consuming too many energy drinks within a short span disturbed the rhythm of the heart, which may lead to fatal arrhythmia. However, further investigation is needed to find out what ingredient caused these problems.
