Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: Sex ratio, gross enrolment ratio improves

Observing National Girl Child Day on January 24, Prime Minister Modi hailed the daughters of India. PM Modi tweeted: '...we salute our #DeshKiBeti and their accomplishments in various fields.' 

Marking the day, the Ministry of Women and Child Development shared that 422 out of the 640 districts under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme have seen an improvement in sex ratio at birth from 918 in 2014-15 to 934 in 2019-20.

The gross enrollment ratio of girls also rose from 77 per cent to over 81 per cent in the last six years. 

The scheme has also been able to bring the focus on the important issue of female infanticide, lack of education amongst girls and deprivation of their rights on a life cycle continuum, the ministry said.
