5 best moments of the 2019 Cricket World Cup

Dec 29, 2019 15:50 IST

New Zealand beating India semis

It was heartbreak for India especially after playing brilliant cricket right through the tournament but the end came far too early. New Zealand stunned India in the semifinal by 18 runs despite the best efforts of former skipper MS Dhoni.

India finish on top of the group

Courtesy some brilliant cricket, Team India finished on top of the leader board after the group stages. With 7 wins and 1 loss only from 9 games, the men in blue were the favourites to win the trophy as the team was performing in every department of the game.

Dhawan 100 vs Aus & then injury

Beating Australia in a World Cup game is always tough but in 2019 it became fairly easy  after Shikhar Dhawan cracked a stunning hundred which helped the men in blue beat the Aussies by 36 runs. Little did anyone knew that Dhawan batted with a broken thumb which later ruled him out of the tournament.

Shami vs Afghanistan hat-trick

Afghanistan had almost pulled off a miracle vs India during the group stages but the saviour for the men in blue came in the form of Mohd Shami. The pacer took a hat-trick which stopped the Afghans just in time to help his side win by 11 runs. He became the 2nd Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a World Cup.

Rohit vs Pakistan & 5 hundreds

Rohit Sharma became an Indian legend with a capital L during the World Cup. His 5 hundreds during the tournament carried the team past the finish line as he batted with flair and commanded the bowlers to his will. The icing on the cake was his stunning 140 off 113 balls vs Pakistan.
