Bengal reports record single-day spike of 17,207 Covid-19 cases

As West Bengal prepares to vote in the 8th and last phase of assembly elections on Thursday, it reported  17,207 new Covid-19 cases, the highest-single day spike recorded in the state so far, pushing the tally to 7,93,552, a bulletin issued by the health department said.

The death toll climbed to 11,159 with 77 more fatalities which is also the maximum deaths recorded in a day so far. 

The new infections include 3,821 cases in Kolkata and 3,778 in North 24 Parganas.

West Bengal now has 1,05,812 active cases, while 6,76,581 people have recovered from the disease, the health department said.
