Benchmark indices, Rupee tumble amid middle east flare-up

Jan 03, 2020 12:26 IST

Sensex dropped over 130 points in early trade on Friday to 41,488 while Nifty tumbled close to 40 points at 12,240 levels as global equities turned negative after a top Iranian general was killed in a US airstrike, fuelling fears of a conflict in the oil-rich region. Banking stocks were among the top losers today with SBI, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank down between 0.5% and 1%. The Rupee weakened to hit a near one-month low against the dollar due to an over 4% spike in crude oil prices. At 11:20 am, the domestic currency was trading at 71.68 a dollar, down 0.44% from Thursday's close of 71.37.
