Ahead of the trust vote, Karnataka Assembly speaker K R Ramesh has disqualified all 17 rebel Congress-JDS MLAs who had resigned, till the term of the current Assembly expires. These 17 MLAs are however likely to contest the Speaker's decision in Court. The BJP led by BS Yediyurappa had staked claim to power after the coalition government of the Congress and HD Kumaraswamy failed the trust vote last week. Currently, there are 222 MLAs in the Karnataka Assembly. The BJP, with 105 MLAs, has an edge over the coalition, which garnered 99 votes in the floor test held last week.
