According to scientists from the University of Barcelona scientists, traces of the novel coronavirus have been found in sewage water in Barcelona collected in March 2019. Spanish virologists have submitted the research for peer review, and if confirmed, this could mean that the disease arrived in the European country much earlier than thought. The team has been testing waste water since mid-April this year and decided to test old samples as well from between January 2018 and December 2019. Experts believe that it is too early to draw a definite conclusion and more research is needed to confirm.
