Badshah on 'Genda Phool' credit row: want to help Ratan Kahar

Apr 01, 2020 13:20 IST

Rapper Badshah's new music video 'Genda Phool' starring Jacqueline Fernandez has landed in a legal credit controversy. Bengali folk artist Ratan Kahar has alleged that he penned the song originally in 1972 and his lyrics have been used in the song without giving any credit to him. Ratan Kahar, who lives in grim poverty, spoke to a Bengali website and said that he does not even have money to drag the matter to court. However, releasing a statement in defense, rapper Badshah said that as an artist, he would never rob another's work and said that Kahar's name was nowhere in the records of 'Bengali folk'. Badshah further added saying that he's been trying to connect with Kahar but due to the lockdown, he is not able. The rapper added that he would love to help Kahar in whatever form he can, on humanitarian and artistic grounds.
