It was a dominating show by Australia in the Boxing Day Test as the hosts thrashing New Zealand by 247 runs in Melbourne on Sunday. The victory gave the Aussies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match Test series. Chasing a mammoth 488 run target, the Kiwis were bowled out for 240. Though Tom Blundell fought hard with a gritty 121, but his effort went in vain as he found no support from any other batsman. The win helped Australia secure 40 points in the World Test Championship taking their tally to 256 at the second spot.
