At least 7 states oppose Centre's plan to send migrant workers home

May 01, 2020 00:23 IST

At least 7 states have opposed Centre's plan to send stranded migrant workers back to their home states via buses. These states have asked the Centre to employ special trains to send thousands of migrants to their home. The central government had on Wednesday allowed the inter-state movement of stranded migrant workers but Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab and Bihar contend that the idea is not practical due to the number of people, distance and logistics involved. BJP leader and Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi made a video appeal, stating that ferrying migrants in buses could take months because of the limited availability and capacity.
