At least 22 migrant workers have died while trying to reach home to their villages during the mass exodus from cities, amid the Covid-19 panic. A report by Scroll says, the actual number could be much more. Thousands of migrant workers have been trying to get home, with most of them attempting to cross state borders, amid the 21-day lockdown. With businesses shut, vast numbers of daily wagers were left without any means of sustenance and shelter in large cities. As they marched along interstate highways to their homes, many were beaten, lathi-charged and sent back from the borders by the police for breaking rules of social distancing.
