The Centre has sent high-level multi-disciplinary public health teams to Maharashtra and Punjab amid a surge in coronavirus cases, the Union Health Ministry informed on Saturday. At present, there are 6,661 active coronavirus cases in Punjab and 90,055 cases in Maharashtra according to Union Health Ministry's data.
The teams will assist the state health departments in Covid-19 surveillance, control and containment measures. The central teams will first visit the Covid-19 hotspot areas to ascertain reasons for the surge. They will then brief the authorities and will also suggest remedial measures that can be undertaken. They will also share a detailed report with the states for further follow-up action.
