A local court in Delhi on Tuesday sent Punjabi actor-activist Deep Sidhu to judicial custody after his police custody expired. During the hearing, Deep Sidhu's lawyer raised apprehension regarding his security in jail.
The magistrate has said the application regarding Deep Sidhu's security and a separate jail cell for him will have to be heard by the jurisdictional magistrate at the Tis Hazari court.
Deep Sidhu is one of the main accused in the violence that broke out at the Red Fort in New Delhi during the farmers' tractor parade on the Republic Day.
Deep Sidhu has been arrested for several offences under the Indian Penal Code including rioting, unlawful assembly, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, assaulting or obstructing public servant, dacoity, culpable homicide among others.
Sidhu has also been arrested under sections of the Arms Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
