According to South Korean electronics news website The Elec, Apple is looking to diversify its supply chain for iPhone displays.
Samsung is the world’s leading OLED manufacturer, and supplied over 78% of all iPhone displays last year. However, Apple is now reportedly looking to increase supply from other manufacturers, namely LG Display, and China’s BOE.
Samsung will still supply 65.1% of the OLED panels for the upcoming 2021 iPhone series, but LG Display and BOE’s shares will rise to 29.6% and 5.3% respectively.
In total, Apple is expected to order 169 million OLED panels for upcoming iPhones.
