The official website of People for Animals (PFA), an animal rights NGO founded by BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, was hacked on Friday by a group of "ethical hackers" over her remarks made on Malappuram district while referring to the death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala. A message on the defaced website read, &ldquo;Maneka Gandhi dragged the sad death of pregnant elephant for dirty politics". Gandhi has been facing the wrath of Keralites after she tweeted that Malappuram district was known for "its intense criminal activity," especially with regard to animals. The message on the website further said the incident happened in Palakkad district and she deliberately brought up Malappuram district "to spread communally motivated false information targeting Muslim majority".

The pregnant wild elephant who died in Kerala had major wounds in its oral cavity, most likely after an explosive blast, due to which she could not eat for nearly two weeks leading to her collapse in a river and drowning, according to a post-mortem report. The report said, incapacitating wounds and injuries in the oral cavity caused localised sepsis. This resulted in excruciating pain and distress in the region and prevented the animal from eating and drinking water for nearly two weeks. Severe debility and weakness in turn resulted in the final collapse in water that led to drowning. The report said drowning, followed by inhalation of water leading to lung failure was the immediate cause of death of the elephant.

Fifteen days should be enough time for states to send migrant workers - stranded in cities across the country since the imposition of nationwide lockdown - home, the Supreme Court said on Friday. The top court also asked all states to create employment opportunities for migrants returning home.&nbsp;The hearing comes days after the top court took suo moto cognisance of the issue and passed several orders to help migrants reach home.&nbsp;The Centre said over 42,00 Shramik Specials have been run till June 3 to transport 1 crore migrant workers to their homes across the country.

A video showing Tik Tok star and BJP leader Sonali Phogat slapping a Market Committee official from Hisar and later beating him with a slipper went viral on social media on Friday. Phogat&nbsp;claims the&nbsp;official was making derogatory remarks against her while she was meeting officials regarding farmer issues and has now filed a complaint against him. The official, Sultan Singh,&nbsp;has also filed a counter complaint against her and alleged that he was held at gunpoint. He claims that Phogat&nbsp;started abusing him and accusing him of delaying the procurement process for farmers. Congress spokesperson Randeep&nbsp;Surjewala&nbsp;shared the video on Twitter and slammed Sonali&nbsp;Phogat. 'Is doing government job a crime? Will CM take action? Will the media still remain silent?' he tweeted. Phogat&nbsp;is a Tik-Tok&nbsp;star turned BJP leader who lost to Congress' Kuldeep&nbsp;Bishnoi&nbsp;in 2019&nbsp; Lok&nbsp;Sabha polls.&nbsp;

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday launched a sharp counter-attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and sister Priyanka for their criticism of the government&rsquo;s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, asserting that if the country listens to them on Covid-19, India will turn into Italy. In an interview with Hindustan editor-in-chief Shashi Shekhar, the Chief Minister said, "Let us be India". Yogi Adtiyanath&rsquo;s barb was a reference to a spike in Covid-19 cases in Italy in the early days of the pandemic. Rahul Gandhi has been targeting the Centre and the UP govt questioning the impact of the lockdown.

In a near-repeat of the George Floyd murder case, which has sparked civil unrest across the United States, policemen in&nbsp;Jodhpur were seen pinning down a man, with one cop kneeling on the man&rsquo;s neck. The incident took place when the man, was stopped by the police for roaming outside without a mask. This led to an argument between the two sides, which eventually turned physical, with the man first attacking the police. It was after this that the police hit back, as they pinned him down. However, the locals intervened, and the cops let the man go.&nbsp;A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The man, who is reported to be mentally unstable, luckily survived.

Epidemiologists at the state-run Dr MGR Medical University have estimated that Chennai may see 1.5 lakh Covid-19 cases and around 1,600 fatalities by the second week of July, if the current rate of growth holds. The university manages the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and its estimations have been done by the government for Covid-19 preparedness. The medical varsity started its projections from April 18 and presented it to the government in the first week of May. According to the predictions of his team, Tamil Nadu may see 1.3 lakh novel coronavirus cases and 769 fatalities by June 30.

Nine people from the same family, including two children, were killed and another was injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Pratapgarh district early on Friday. Police said the accident took place at around 5.30am and all the nine people died on the spot. Police had to use gas cutters to cut open the SUV to extract the bodies and rescue the injured with the help of locals.

First arrest has been made in the brutal killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala. The state Forest Minister said that a man has been arrested in the case that sparked a widespread outcry. The elephant died after eating a pineapple stuffed with crackers&nbsp;kept as bait to protect crops from wild boars. Chief Wildlife Warden said that the man, who is in his forties, allegedly handled explosives himself and also helped others use it. The crackers exploded in the elephant's mouth and it walked for days in agony before it went into a river and died standing on May 27.

Delhi recorded 1,359 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, which took the Capital's Covid-19 tally past the 25,000-mark. The death toll due to the disease mounted to 650, authorities said. The highest single-day spike of 1,513 cases in the national capital was recorded on Wednesday. A total of 44 fatalities were reported on Thursday. Meanwhile, in an order on Thursday, the Delhi government said 56 private facilities were directed to reserve a proportionate number of beds for Covid-19 patients in the EWS category.

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik said that the state government has announced weekend shutdown in 11 districts in order to reduce frequency of people coming out of their homes in the ongoing month of June. The CM said that the restriction would mean that people will be at their homes for full 8 days in the month of June, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;&nbsp;Odisha has reported close to 2400 coronavirus cases and 9 deaths so far.

The Delhi govt has barred eight labs from carrying out coronavirus tests citing "flouting of testing protocols and taking too long to report results". The government also believes that the labs, by testing asymptomatic and low-risk individuals in violation of the testing guidelines, are effectively creating a bottleneck where people who desperately need to be tested have to wait. There is now fear that banning these labs will hurt the Capital's testing capacity amid a spike in Cocid-19 cases. According to the Hindustan Times, the eight labs together were able to carry out 4,000 tests a day.

Amid reports of people being turned back or made to wait for a long time at hospitals, the Delhi government has issued a new standard operating procedure for treating coronavirus patients. According to the rules, Covid-19 patients shall be brought to the triage area from the ambulance without asking for any details. This process must be completed in 15 minutes and doctors on call must attend to the patient within an hour. If beds are not available at the hospital, then it will be entirely the responsibility of the hospital to transfer the patient to another one.

As many as 2,550 foreigners who attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in New Delhi have been banned from entering India for 10 years for flouting visa norms. Last month the Delhi police told the High Court that as many as 960 members of the Jamaat, who came to India on tourist and e-visas, are liable to face jail term of up to five years. The police pointed out that the foreigners violated the conditions of their visas by joining the religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin, and are hence culpable for prosecution under Section 14 of the Indian Foreigners Act, 1946.

A SpiceJet pilot was robbed by 10 armed men in the middle of the night in south Delhi on Wednesday. Before fleeing, one of the men attacked him with a knife, leaving the pilot bleeding on a flyover close to the Indian Institute of Technology in south Delhi. The pilot was on way to work from his home in Faridabad&nbsp;when the incident happened.&nbsp;Reports said several people have been looted in the same manner near IIT-Delhi in recent days.

61 people have been arrested after migrant workers, who were returning on board a Shramik special train from Mumbai, pulled the emergency chain to jump off the train to avoid the quarantine period. NDTV reported that the train was travelling from Mumbai to Dibrugarh when the migrant workers decided to pull the chain of the Lokmanya Tilak Shramik train near Hojai railway station in Lower Assam on Tuesday midnight.56 of the passengers who got down were arrested by the RPF, rest were arrested by Assam Police.

Maharashtra reported the highest single-day spike in coronavirus deaths on Wednesday with 122 fatalities, taking the total number of deaths in the state to 2,587. The total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 74,860. The state has been the worst hit in the country and accounts for over a third of India's total coronavirus cases. Mumbai alone reported 1,276 cases on Wednesday and accounted for 49 of the 122 deaths. The total number of deaths in the financial capital is now 1,417.

Cyclone Nisarga has hit Maharashtra. The severe cyclonic storm made a landfall 95 km from Mumbai near Alibaug. The weather department said that the center of Cyclone Nisarga is very close to Maharashtra coast. Landfall process will be completed during next 3 hours. Trees have been uprooted at places in Raigad district due to gusty winds. The cyclone has brought in a wind speed of up to 120 kmph and heavy rain in parts. At least 40,000 people have been evacuated from low lying areas. High tide is expected in Mumbai as the cyclonic activity intensifies.

Following a surge in coronavirus cases amid relaxations in curbs, Delhi govt has made a 7-day home quarantine mandatory for every person arriving in the Capital by train, bus or flight. The govt changed its earlier rule where no quarantine was required. The district administration officials have been tasked with ensuring that the rule is followed. Earlier, the Delhi government had only advised that incoming people should monitor themselves for the next 14 days. Delhi currently over 23,000 Covid-19 cases, adding a daily average of nearly 1,200 cases over the last seven days.

17 children were wounded after a school bus turned turtle and fell off the road in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district.  Two among the injured were severely wounded and have been rushed to a nearby hospital. Police have detained the driver of the school bus for questioning. 50 children were onboard when the mishap happened.
