Amazon and Flipkart have suspended deliveries of non-essential items in Delhi, after the state government imposed a six-day lockdown due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
The e-commerce websites are still delivering items considered essentials, including food, grocery products, healthcare products, and personal care items. Both websites had also suspended the delivery of non-essential items after the lockdown imposed in Maharashtra.
Both Flipkart and Amazon had petitioned the state government to allow delivery of all items, arguing that essential products may vary according to a user’s needs. However, the Confederation of All India Traders had urged the Commerce Minister to dismiss their requests, which would create an uneven playing field between offline and online retail channels.
