Allowing EU MPs, not Indian leaders, to visit J&K an ‘insult': Cong

Oct 28, 2019 20:54 IST

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has called European Union delegation’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir an 'outright insult to India’s own Parliament and democracy' and sought to know why opposition political leaders were prevented from visiting the state after the abrogation of J&K’s special status. CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury who was part of a delegation of Opposition leaders who were denied permission to visit the valley, asked why Indian political leaders were 'repeatedly prevented from exiting Srinagar airport?' The EU delegation’s visit comes days after six American lawmakers wrote to Indian Ambassador to the US Harsh Vardhan Shringla seeking free access for foreign journalists and Congressmen to Kashmir.
