Air pollution linked to psychotic experiences in teenagers

Mar 28, 2019 12:36 IST

Researchers from Kings College London have found that air pollution may be linked to 'psychotic experiences' in young people. Teenagers living in dirty air are at a 70 percent higher risk of developing conditions like intense paranoia and 'hearing voices'. The study involved analysing 2,000 teenagers aged 17 across Wales and England. Other factors like smoking and family income were also taken into account. The study concluded that children and young adults are more vulnerable to the health impact of air pollution. The study was published in the journal Jama Psychiatry.
