Air India to ban single-use plastic

Aug 29, 2019 15:21 IST

Indian flag carrier Air India has announced a ban on single-use plastic in flights from the 2nd of October. The first phase of the ban applies to all Air India Express and Alliance Air flights while the second phase will be implemented in Air India flights. The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the nation to reduce the usage of single-use plastic in his Independence Day speech. Meal cutlery will be replaced with steel cutlery and plastic cups with paper cups. Paper pouches will replace plastic packaging for sandwiches.
