After violence, Arunachal rejects PRC proposal for 6 groups

Feb 24, 2019 23:01 IST

The Arunachal government has passed an order rejecting the recommendations of a High-Powered Committee to grant permanent resident certificates to six tribal communities. In a series of tweets, Union minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Congress for instigating a section of people that led to violent protests in the state. The proposal to grant permanent residency to the six communities, who are not natives of Arunachal Pradesh evoked massive protests in the state. The Centre has dispatched 1,000 paramilitary personnel to help the state govt maintain law and order.
