Similar shops have been a regular feature of the North Korean capital over the past decade and more.
But their stocks are often mostly Korean traditional remedies, with few modern or foreign-made medicines.
North Korea has long suffered a lack of medicine of all kinds, as well as problems of out of date supplies.
The Politburo had issued an emergency order to immediately release and quickly distribute state medicine reserves and for pharmacies to switch over to 24-hour shifts.
But Kim said such steps weren't being properly implemented and he ordered that the medical units of his military get involved in stabilising the supply of medicine in Pyongyang, KCNA said.
North Korea's claim of a perfect record in keeping out the virus for two and a half years had been widely doubted.
But its extremely strict border closure, large-scale quarantines and propaganda that stressed anti-virus controls as a matter of "national existence" may have staved off a huge outbreak until now.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for reforming the World Health Organisation (WHO) and streamlining its approval process for vaccines and therapeutics, and favoured making flexible the WTO's rules relating to trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS).
In his address at the second global virtual summit on COVID-19 hosted by US President Joe Biden, Modi also said that a coordinated global response is required to combat future health emergencies and called for building a resilient global supply chain for equitable access to vaccines and medicines.
Modi said the World Health Organisation must be reformed and strengthened to build a more resilient global health security architecture.
The prime minister's call for making flexible rules of the WTO, particularly the TRIPS, came over a year-and-half after India and South Africa placed a proposal at the World Trade Organization (WTO) to temporarily waive intellectual property rights for producing COVID-19 vaccines to effectively deal with the pandemic.
"It is clear that a coordinated global response is required to combat future health emergencies. We must build a resilient global supply chain and enable equitable access to vaccines and medicines," Modi said.
"The WTO rules, particularly TRIPS, need to be more flexible. WHO must be reformed and strengthened to build a more resilient global health security architecture," he said in the opening session of the summit.
India has been pressing for the TRIPS waiver to ensure scaling up of the vaccine production for equitable and global access.
"We also call for streamlining WHO's approval process for vaccines and therapeutics to keep supply chains stable and predictable. As a responsible member of the global community, India is ready to play a key role in these efforts," Modi said.
In his address, the prime minister also spoke about how India's Genomics Consortium has contributed significantly to the global database on the virus and added that New Delhi will extend this network to countries in its neighbourhood.
"In India, we extensively used our traditional medicines to supplement our fight against Covid and to boost immunity, saving countless lives. Last month, we laid the foundation of 'WHO Centre for Traditional Medicine' in India, with an aim to make this age-old knowledge available to the world," he said.
Referring to India's handling of the pandemic, Modi said the country has fully vaccinated almost 90 per cent of the adult population and more than 50 million children.
"Our vaccination programme is the largest in the world. We have fully vaccinated almost 90 per cent of the adult population, and more than 50 million children. India manufactures four WHO-approved vaccines and has the capacity to produce five billion doses this year," he said.
"We supplied over 200 million doses to 98 countries, bilaterally and through COVAX. India has developed low-cost Covid mitigation technologies for testing, treating and data management. We have offered these capabilities to other countries," Modi said.
The prime minister said the Covid pandemic continues to disrupt "lives, supply chains, and tests the resilience of open societies." "In India, we adopted a people-centric strategy against the pandemic. We have made the highest ever allocation to our annual healthcare budget," he said.
Modi participated in the first global virtual summit on COVID-19 hosted by Biden on September 22 last year as well.
The second summit intends to galvanize new actions to address the continued challenges of the pandemic and build a stronger global health security architecture.

Relaxing norms for Covid vaccine precaution dose, the Centre on Thursday allowed citizens travelling overseas to get the shot before the stipulated nine-month waiting period as required by the guidelines of the destination country
The Union Health Ministry's decision to relax the norms about the precaution dose for overseas travellers was based on recommendations by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).
"Indian citizens and students travelling overseas can now take the precaution dose as required by the guidelines of the destination country. This new facility will be available soon on the CoWIN portal," Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet.
The advisory panel last week had recommended that those who need to travel overseas can take the precaution dose of Covid vaccine as required by the country they are travelling to before the mandatory nine-month gap.
Currently, all those above 18 years who have completed nine months after the second dose are eligible for the precaution jab.
The ministry had received several representations seeking the precaution dose of Covid vaccine for those who have to travel abroad for employment, business commitments, admission to foreign educational institutes, participating in sports events, and bilateral and multilateral meetings as part of India's official delegation.
"The issue was discussed in a meeting of NTAGI held last week after which it recommended that those who need to travel overseas can take the booster shot, before the stipulated nine-month waiting period, as per the booster guidelines of the country they are travelling to," a source had said.
India began administering precaution doses of Covid vaccines to healthcare and frontline workers and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities from January 10 this year.
The comorbidity clause was removed in March making all people aged above 60 eligible for the precaution dose of Covid vaccine.
On April 10, India began administering precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccines to all aged above 18 years at private vaccination centres.

The Seattle-based Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the most influential private foundation in the world, with an endowment of about $65 billion.

Delhi recorded 1,656 Covid-19 cases and zero fatality due to the infection on Friday, highest since February 4, while the positivity rate stood at 5.39%, according to data shared by the city health department.
A total of 30,709 tests for the detection of coronavirus were conducted in the city a day before, it stated.
The number of fresh coronavirus cases was the highest recorded in a single day since February 4 when the city had recorded 2,272 new infections at a positivity rate of 3.85%, and 20 related deaths.
With the new cases, the national capital's overall COVID-19 infection tally rose to 18,91,425, while the death toll stood at 26,177, the data showed.
The national capital had recorded 1,365 COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the infection on Thursday, while the positivity rate had stood at 6.35%.
Delhi had reported 1,354 cases with a positivity rate of 7.64% and one fatality due to the disease on Wednesday. On Tuesday, it had reported 1,414 cases with a positivity rate of 5.97% and one death due to the disease.
There are 6,096 active cases in the national capital, up from 5,746 the previous day. The number of containment zones has risen to 1,597 from 1,473 on Thursday, according to the latest health bulletin.
The hospitalisation rate has so far been low, accounting for less than three per cent of the total number of active cases, it stated.
Currently, 200 COVID-19 patients are admitted in Delhi hospitals, while 4,269 are recuperating in home isolation, the bulletin stated.
Of the 9,590 beds for COVID-19 patients in various hospitals, only 200 (2.09 per cent) are occupied, it stated.
The spurt in COVID-19 cases and the test positivity rate in Delhi over the last few weeks does not suggest the onset of a new wave, but people should keep basic mitigation measures in place to prevent the spread of the infection, experts have said.

The number of fresh coronavirus cases was the highest recorded in a single day since February 4 when the city had recorded 2,272 new infections at a positivity rate of 3.85%, and 20 related deaths.
With the new cases, the national capital's overall COVID-19 infection tally rose to 18,91,425, while the death toll stood at 26,177, the data showed.
The national capital had recorded 1,365 COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the infection on Thursday, while the positivity rate had stood at 6.35%.
Delhi had reported 1,354 cases with a positivity rate of 7.64% and one fatality due to the disease on Wednesday. On Tuesday, it had reported 1,414 cases with a positivity rate of 5.97% and one death due to the disease.

There are 6,096 active cases in the national capital, up from 5,746 the previous day. The number of containment zones has risen to 1,597 from 1,473 on Thursday, according to the latest health bulletin.
The hospitalisation rate has so far been low, accounting for less than three per cent of the total number of active cases, it stated.
Currently, 200 COVID-19 patients are admitted in Delhi hospitals, while 4,269 are recuperating in home isolation, the bulletin stated.
Of the 9,590 beds for COVID-19 patients in various hospitals, only 200 (2.09 per cent) are occupied, it stated.

The WHO on Thursday said that 14.9 million people were killed either by COVID-19 directly or due to the pandemic’s impact on health systems and society, with the global health agency estimating that India had 4.7 million fatalities.
In New Delhi, India strongly objected to the use of mathematical models by the World Health Organization (WHO) for projecting excess mortality estimates linked to the coronavirus pandemic in view of the availability of authentic data, saying validity and robustness of the models used and methodology of data collection are questionable.
New estimates from the WHO show that the full death toll associated directly or indirectly with the COVID-19 pandemic, described as “excess mortality”, between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021 was approximately 14.9 million, range 13.3 million to 16.6 million.
“These sobering data not only point to the impact of the pandemic but also to the need for all countries to invest in more resilient health systems that can sustain essential health services during crises, including stronger health information systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General.
WHO is committed to working with all countries to strengthen their health information systems to generate better data for better decisions and better outcomes, he said.
Excess mortality includes deaths associated with COVID-19 directly (due to the disease) or indirectly (due to the pandemic’s impact on health systems and society).
Deaths linked indirectly to COVID-19 are attributable to other health conditions for which people were unable to access prevention and treatment because health systems were overburdened by the pandemic.
The estimated number of excess deaths can be influenced also by deaths averted during the pandemic due to lower risks of certain events, like motor-vehicle accidents or occupational injuries.
For India, the cumulative excess deaths associated with COVID-19 pandemic (mean) estimated by the WHO is 4,740,894.
In a technical note for India, WHO said the “estimates may not be regarded as the national statistics officially produced by India due to differences arising from the data and methods used by WHO.” It noted that the information from the Civil Registration System (CRS) in India for 2020 was made publicly available by the Registrar General of India (RGI) on May 3, 2022 in a report.
The newly published information in the report is being carefully examined and will be taken into consideration in revisions of the estimates.
According to sources in New Delhi, India is likely to raise the issue at the World Health Assembly and other required multilateral forums.
India has been consistently objecting to the methodology adopted by the WHO to project excess mortality estimates based on mathematical models, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement.
"Despite India's objection to the process, methodology and outcome of this modelling exercise, WHO has released the excess mortality estimates without adequately addressing India's concerns," the statement said.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 189.23 crore.

The research team analysed data from 1,649 COVID-19 patients from the Swedish Intensive Care Registry, a national quality registry that covers all ICUs in Sweden. The patients included in the study were admitted to ICUs during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A majority of the study cohort had a high BMI with 78.3% overweight patients.
It was observed that there was a significant association between increasing BMI and the composite outcome of death during intensive care or an ICU stay of longer than 14 days in survivors. Moreover, this association remained despite other comorbidities&nbsp;like cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, liver or kidney disease.
The team thereby concluded that obesity is an independent risk factor for the severe outcomes from intensive care in patients with COVID-19 and suggested that BMI must be included in the severity scoring for COVID-19 ICU patients.

These bars offer drinks made of sparkling sodas and juices, but most importantly they are all made without the use of alcohol.&nbsp;
This fad of sober bars isn&rsquo;t a new phenomenon. According to a report by the Associated Press, these non-alcoholic bars first appeared in the 19th century as part of the temperance movement. The movement aimed to limit or outlaw the consumption and production of alcoholic beverages. And while that&nbsp;revolution targeted&nbsp;the non-drinkers or people in rehabilitation, the new&nbsp;trend welcomes the sober as well as the curious.
International Wines and Spirits Record (IWSR) reported that in the year 2020, alcohol consumption fell by 5% in 10 key markets including the USA, Germany, Japan and Brazil. And during this same year, consumption of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1%. While the numbers suggest&nbsp;that the demand for&nbsp;alcoholic drinks still outweighs the non-alcoholic ones. As per IWSR, the global consumption of low and no-alcohol beer, wine and spirits is growing two to three times faster than overall alcohol consumption.

So what led to this sudden shift?
The COVID-19 pandemic of course!
The pandemic has warp-sped&nbsp;the change in people&rsquo;s drinking habits. Being locked up indoors has caused people to rethink their lifestyle, which entailed regular alcohol consumption, and switch to healthier alternatives. Even in India, companies like Bengal Bay, Jade Forest and Kati Patang which produce non-alcoholic drinks are becoming more and more popular.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

So, while the industry producing non-alcoholic drinks is still very small compared to the alcohol industry, the increase in the former's consumption may change the notion of 'drinking habits' entirely in the future. And if the alcohol redemption is real, it is here to stay for long.
