Google removes alleged spying app ToTok from Play Store again

Feb 15, 2020 18:39 IST

Google has removed popular chat app ToTok from its Play Store for the second time after claims of it being a spying tool for the United Arab Emirates government. Apple and Google had previously pulled the app from their respective stores in December following a New York Times report about the same. Downloaded by millions of users, the app has access to microphones, cameras, user calendars and can reportedly mine data from users' contacts list and track locations by offering a localised weather forecast.
