As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread, the great apes have been put under lockdown. There are increasing fears that the virus may affect them as well. While there is no concrete evidence about this, the chief veterinary officer for Gorilla Doctors, dedicated to saving the species, has warned of the risk. She shared that mountain gorillas are susceptible to human pathogens and could develop respiratory illnesses. Gorilla tourism in the forests of Rwanda, Uganda and the DR Congo has been suspended and all necessary measures are being taken to protect the species.
