One of the interlocutors appointed by Supreme Court to mediate with Shaheen Bagh protesters, Wajahat Habibullah, has filed an affidavit in the top court on the road blockage in the area. The hearing is scheduled to be held on Monday by a two-judge bench. Wajahat Habibullah, in his affidavit, said that the protest in Shaheen Bagh against Citizenship Amendment Act is peaceful. The former bureaucrat also said that the police have blocked five points around Shaheen Bagh. SC-appointed interlocutors Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran have so far held four rounds of talks with the protesters, trying to convince them to hold the agitation at an alternative site.

Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury hit out at the government for spending crores of rupees to welcome US President Donald Trump. Chowdhury on Saturday called the US president 'Mogambo', the iconic villain played by late actor Amrish Puri in the film 'Mr India', saying the Modi government is doing everything to make 'Mogambo' happy.
"What is the need to spend crore of rupees from the government's treasury? People living in slums are being forced to hide or move to make Trump happy. Is this the right behaviour? Gujarat was developed by (PM) Modi as a model for others but the poor are being exploited there. It is like we will do everything to make Mogambo happy", he said.

The call by Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad for nationwide bandh on Sunday, has been getting support from multiple political and social outfits. The Dalit leader has called for a shutdown against the Supreme Court ruling that says states were not bound to provide reservation in government jobs and quota in promotion. Issues like Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register for Citizens (NRC) and atrocities against Dalits have also been included in the bandh call. In Uttar Pradesh, Azad had the support of Shivpal Yadav of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party; while in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD has backed the Bharat Bandh.

The entry and exit gates of Jaffrabad Metro station in north east Delhi were closed on Sunday morning, after more than 500 women protesters blocked the road against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens. Carrying Tricolours, the women blocked road no. 66 which connects Seelampur with Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. With heavy security deployed at the station, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said trains would not be halting at the station. These fresh protests by women come as efforts are being made to negotiate with the women protesters at Shaheen Bagh, whose agitation has resulted in massive traffic snarls along the Delhi-Noida route.

Ahead of US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania's visit to Taj Mahal in Agra, the replicas of graves of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal are also being given a facelift. A Times of India report said, the Archaeological Survey of India is conducting a clay-pack treatment for the replicas of the two graves, which is expected be completed by Friday evening. This is reportedly the first time the replicas of graves have been cleaned since the emperor and his queen were buried 368 years ago. The original graves of Shahjahan and Mumtaz lie in a chamber below the crypt containing them. As part of the restoration, a coating of lime-rich clay is applied on the damaged parts of the replicas and left to dry, after which impurities are removed from the surface with a soft brush. The TOI report added, that the huge brass chandelier installed over the two graves is also being cleaned with tamarind water.

A 'Trump platter', comprising signature dishes from ITC Maurya's iconic restaurant Bukhara, is likely to be laid out for US President Donald Trump during his maiden visit to India, say reports. The Bukhara restaurant, which has hosted several heads of states, including former US presidents, has not altered its menu for the last 41 years. The hotel, however, has not revealed anything about the arrangements made for Trump, including the food.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday raised questions over the funding of the committee formed to oversee various programmes during US President Donald Trump's Ahmedabad visit on February 24. Tagging a media report on Twitter, she wondered what the government is 'hiding under the guise' of the committee. She tweeted asking if the country not have the right to know which ministry gave how much money to the committee, and who are its members.

The Sri Ram Sena has announced a bounty of Rs 10 lakh for killing Amulya Leona, the woman who shouted pro-Pakistan slogans at an anti-CAA event in Bengaluru. In a video, at a protest rally organised by the outfit in Ballari, the Ram Sena worker is heard asking the government not to release Amulya or else he will kill her. The police say they haven't seen the video or heard about any such bounty. At an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act event in the city on Thursday, Amulya, had raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans, following which she was arrested on sedition charges and remanded to judicial custody,

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that he is praying for the early release of three former chief ministers of Jammu &amp; Kashmir from their detention and hoping that they will contribute to normalizing situation in Kashmir. In an interview to news agency IANS, Rajnath said, Kashmir has been peaceful. The situation is improving and decisions on the release of politicians will also be finalised. He said the govt has not tortured anyone and certain steps had been taken in the interests of Kashmir. Dozens of politicians, including three former chief ministers -- Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah of the National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP were placed under preventive detention after the Centre bifurcated the state into two Union Territories on August 5 last year.

A Delhi court has rejected a plea by one of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya case who claimed he has mental illness and needs treatment. The plea claimed that Vinay&nbsp;Sharma&nbsp;is&nbsp;suffering from "insanity", "mental illness" and "schizophrenia".&nbsp;Tihar jail authorities termed his claims as a "bundle of distorted facts" and told the court that CCTV footage established that the convict had inflicted "superficial" injuries on himself and was not suffering from any psychological disorder. The psychologist, who appeared on behalf of the jail, also told court that all convicts are fine.&nbsp;

Refuting the claim by a district mining official, the&nbsp;Geological Survey of India has said there has been no discovery of over 3,000-tonne gold deposits in Uttar&nbsp;Pradesh&rsquo;s&nbsp;Sonbhadra&nbsp;district.&nbsp;GSI Director General M Sridhar said&nbsp;after exploration his&nbsp;organisation&nbsp;estimated a probable category resource of 52,806.25&nbsp;tonnes&nbsp;of ore with 3.03 grams per&nbsp;tonne&nbsp;gold. The director general said&nbsp;the&nbsp;mineralised&nbsp;zone having an average grade of 3.03 grams per&nbsp;tonne&nbsp;of gold is tentative in nature and the total gold which can be extracted from 52,806.25&nbsp;tonnes&nbsp;of ore is approximately 160 kg and not 3,350&nbsp;tonnes&nbsp;as reported by the media.&nbsp;

Union minister Smriti Irani has dismissed Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi&nbsp;Vadra&rsquo;s&nbsp;frequent forays into Uttar Pradesh. The BJP leader, said at the Hindustan&nbsp;Samagam&nbsp;event in Lucknow, that&nbsp;Priyanka is only active in Congress, because she is working to make space for herself in her own party.&nbsp;Priyanka who was officially inducted into the Congress in January last year and made in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, had extensively canvassed in the general elections but could not prevent a severe drubbing for the party.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said 1.3 billion Indians have disregarded apprehensions and wholeheartedly accepted recent critical judicial verdicts, which were subjects of global discussion. The Prime Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the International Judicial Conference 2020. PM spoke about recent crucial judgements, including in the politically-sensitive Ayodhya case. He said no country in the world can claim to achieve holistic development without gender justice, referring to laws on transgenders, and 'triple talaq'. He said the government has also taken steps to give rights to women in military service and in providing paid maternity leave for 26 weeks.

The Taj Mahal will be shut for visitors from 12 noon on Monday in view of US President Donald Trump's maiden two-day visit. The Archaeological Survey of India said the move was due to security reasons. All houses, shops, restaurants and hotels on the main route and near the Taj Mahal area have been identified and teams have conducting verification ahead of the US President's visit. The police in Agra have asked local vendors in the city to provide their Aadhaar card as part of the verification process.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to accompany US President Donald Trump and his family on their visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra on Monday, reports quoting official sources said. The US President will arrive in Ahmedabad at around noon on February 24, following which, the Trumps will travel to Agra on Monday afternoon to visit the Taj Mahal. When asked if PM Modi will accompany Trump to Agra, reports citing official sources said, there were no official engagements or presence of senior dignitaries from the Indian side there as part of the plan.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia may not accompany First Lady Melania Trump to a government school during her visit to the capital next week.
ANI reported citing Delhi government sources, names of Kejriwal and Sisodia have been dropped from the school event. Earlier, they were both to attend the programme, give Melania a tour of the school and brief her about their public education experiment.
The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that it was the centre's plan to drop the two leaders from the VVIP event. AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon tweeted, that there is no match for the pettiness of PM Modi.

China is delaying clearance to India's proposal to send an Indian Air Force flight carrying relief material for people affected by coronavirus in China and bring back Indians from Wuhan, reports quoting official sources said. India was to send a C-17 military transport aircraft to Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, on the 20th of February, but the plane could not take off as permission was not granted. Reports citing Indian officials say, China is deliberately delaying grant of clearance for the evacuation flight.
