5th Sero-survey: Delhi headed towards herd immunity?

Jan 25, 2021 21:05 IST

The result of Delhi's 5th round of seroprevalence survey in which 25,000 people participated suggests that the population in the national capital could be heading towards attaining herd immunity. The Hindustan Times quoting unnamed sources said the survey has shown that in 1 of the 11 districts, 50 to 60% of the population has developed antibodies against coronavirus. However, the Delhi government has yet not declared it officially. As per experts, herd immunity that develops if 50-60% of the population has antibodies, refers to a large set of people from a community who are immune to the disease after contracting it and later act as a protective layer between the affected and unaffected people, breaking the chain of viral transmission.
