A new study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics established that fast food has become more unhealthy than it was 30 years ago. While the variety of fast food has increased over the years, so have the levels of sodium, calories and portion sizes especially with appetizers, sides and desserts. The study involved analysing 10 popular fast food chains in the US in the years 1986, 1991, and 2016. The research indicates that the increase in portion sizes is the major reason for increase in the calorie counts over the years.
