After a poor show with the bat in Wellington, Indian batsmen disappointed in a do or die 2nd Test as well. The innings though started off on a better note as after Mayank Agarwal's wicket, young Prithvi Shaw scored a half-century. India lost 3 quick wickets before Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari dropped anchor and smashed a fifty each. A batting collapse then saw the visitors lose their last 6 wickets for just 48 runs and being bowled out for 242 in the first innings. It looked like a completely different wicket with New Zealand came out to bat. Openers put together an unbeaten 63-run stand as India are on the mat on the very first day. The Kiwis now trail by 179 runs with all 10 wickets intact.
