India this year has recorded the rainiest August in 44 years, the India Meteorological Department data shows. The Hindustan Times reported that there was an overall 25% excess rain in August across India. Last India saw such a level was in 1976 when the country received 28.4% more rain than is usual for this time of the year. While many past of the country have seen floods and several big cities have suffered heavy water logging due to heavy rains, the excess rain is good new for agriculture. Monsoon has filled up agricultural reservoirs and recharged groundwater across large parts of the country that will help the farmers in the next crop season.
