India on Monday recorded 18,599 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease and the total active caseload stood at 1.88 lakh after. The daily rise in new infections were recorded above 18,000 for the third consecutive day. Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are driving the daily surge in caseload.
The recovery rate has dropped further to 96.95 per cent, the ministry data stated.
Meanwhile, the vaccination drive is being conducted in full swing. 2,09,89,010 people have been inoculated so far.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dr Peter Hotez, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston has emphasised that India's contributions in fighting the pandemic must not be underestimated.
India is called the pharmacy of the world during the COVID-19 pandemic with its vast experience and deep knowledge in medicine. The country is one of the world&rsquo;s biggest drug-makers and an increasing number of countries have already approached it for procuring coronavirus vaccines.
Dr Hotez, during a recent webinar, said that the two mRNA vaccines may not impact the world's low and middle income countries, but India&rsquo;s vaccines, made in collaboration with universities across the world such as BCM and the Oxford University, have &ldquo;rescued the world&rdquo; and its contributions must not be underestimated.

Mithun kick-started his acting career with Mrinal Sen's Mrigayaa in 1976 and won the National award for Best Actor but it was the 1982 film Disco Dancer that popularised him as one of the best 'dancing-heroes' in Bollywood, with the youth trying to imitate his moves. In a career spanning four decades Mithun has acted in over 350 films across mediums including in some hit masala Bengali flicks.
