Hours after hitting the coast of West Bengal and Odisha with windspeeds of up to 190 kmph, Cyclone Amphan has left behind a trail of destruction as it makes its way inwards into the 2 states. At least 3 people are feared to be dead in West Bengal. Uprooted trees have blocked roads and heavy machinery has already been pushed into action to remove them. The strong winds have also uprooted electric poles causing a blackout in some parts. According to officials close to 5500 houses have been damaged by the cyclone in North 24 Paraganas. The cyclone is expected to move north-northeasterly, gradually weaken and then become a depression on Thursday, according to IMD.
