The amount of materials consumed by humans has reached 100bn tonnes a year and it is disproportionate to the amount of waste getting recycled. The report by a thinktank Circle Economy was released at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It states that " treating the world’s resources as limitless is leading towards global disaster". The last 2 years have seen the consumption of resources jump by over 8%. The report also states that there are some nations working towards a circular economy. Cement, clay, gravel and sand make up more than half of the total materials consumed.
