10 yr bond yield hits 18-month high, hopes of rate cut rise

May 29, 2019 18:25 IST

India’s 10-year bond prices extended gains for the sixth day on Wednesday, hitting a near 18-month high. The yield on the benchmark note was at 7.12% - a level last seen in December 2017. Part of the optimism is driven by a fall in global crude oil prices and the slide in US treasury yields. All eyes are now on the Reserve Bank of India's bi-monthly policy statement on 6th June, with most analysts expecting a rate cut.
