The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has revealed that atleast 10 states in India are unequipped to ensure food safety. Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam and Chattisgarh are among the worst performers when it comes to food safety. The lack of proper food testing laboratories and insufficient staff are the major reasons for the low food safety standards. On the other hand, states like Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have seen an improvement in this regard.
