10,000 camels to be culled in drought-hit Australia

Jan 08, 2020 16:04 IST

Australia has ordered a mass culling of up to 10,000 camels as they drink too much water amid the raging wildfires. Authorities have also said that big herds of the animals in search of water have been encroaching remote towns, endangering indigenous communities by threatening scarce food and drinking water along with damaging infrastructure. According to reports, snipers have taken off in helicopters in Wednesday towards South Australia for the 5-day culling operation.
