1% of world population cause half of global aviation emissions

Nov 18, 2020 11:12 IST

According to a new study published in the journal Global Environmental Change, 1% of the world's population caused half of global aviation emissions in 2018. Among rich countries, the US air passengers have the biggest carbon footprint, the research suggested. Experts believe that the drop in air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic must be used to make the aviation industry more sustainable using 'green conditions'. Emissions from the aviation industry jumped by 32% between 2013 and 2018!
