Britain logged a record high in Covid deaths on Tuesday with 1,610 fatalities in 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths in a day since the since the pandemic began. The UK's total Covid-19 death tally now stands at 91,470. The only solace was the number of new cases continue to decline as a stringent lockdown announced earlier this month starts to have an effect. The country recorded over 33,000 new cases in 24 hours taking the total number of infections to nearly 3.5 million. The number of new cases over the last week was down around 22 percent. Britain is currently gripped by its third and deadliest wave of the virus, blamed on a new strain believed to be highly infectious.
