Uttarakhand set to host first-ever National Games in 2025

Uttarakhand is buzzing with anticipation as it counts down to hosting its inaugural National Games from January 28th to February 14th, 2025. The state is gearing up to welcome a plethora of athletes, officials, and spectators from across India, showcasing state-of-the-art infrastructure, forward-thinking green initiatives, and warm hospitality.

The 38th edition of the National Games promises to display the pinnacle of Indian sporting talent across a variety of disciplines. Central venues for these events are situated in Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, and Rudrapur, with additional competitions scheduled in Shivpuri, Tehri, Bhim Tal, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Tanakpur.

On December 15th, 2024, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami revealed the official mascot, Mauli, in Dehradun. Drawing inspiration from the Monal, the state bird, Mauli embodies the unique natural heritage of the region and inspires young athletes to achieve their highest potential. The logo, also reflecting the grace of the Monal, symbolizes the beauty and diversity of Uttarakhand.

During the launch event, CM Dhami expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are unveiling the mascot, anthem, logo, tagline, and jersey. On behalf of the people of Uttarakhand, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing us to host this event.”

The state is preparing for the influx of approximately 10,000 athletes, officials, and coaches. The torch relay, launched from Haldwani on December 26th, is igniting enthusiasm as it traverses the state, with Mauli playing an active role in the celebrations.

This year’s National Games will be a landmark event, not only for Uttarakhand but for Indian sports as a whole, establishing new standards for sustainable sporting events.
