Punjab FC Seals Punjab State Super League 2025 Title

Mohali, Oct 30 (PTI) Punjab FC clinched the Punjab State Super Football League 2025 title on Thursday, securing victory with a match still to play, as their nearest competitors, Sher-e-Punjab Sports Club, dropped crucial points in their second-to-last game against Border Security Force Football Club. After 17 matches, Punjab FC accumulated 39 points, outpacing Sher-e-Punjab Sports Club, who have 34 points from the same number of matches. This situation renders it impossible for any team to surpass the Shers. This triumph marks the club's second Punjab State League title, having first won it in the 2022-23 season. In the 2024-25 season, they finished as runners-up to Namdhari Sports Academy. A significant factor in their successful campaign has been the team’s formidable defense, which achieved 12 clean sheets out of 17 matches, highlighting their discipline and strategic coordination. The Shers emerged victorious in 12 matches, drew three, and suffered just two losses, scoring 32 goals while conceding a mere 11 throughout the season. Under the guidance of Head Coach Praveen Kumar, the squad comprised solely of players aged under 25, including nine athletes from the Under-19 squad and 16 players originating from Punjab. "We embarked on this campaign with a young team, all of whom are under 25 and many coming directly from our U-19 setup, exhibiting outstanding maturity and determination throughout," remarked Praveen Kumar. "Securing the league with a game to spare reflects their discipline, consistency, and the emerging identity we are cultivating as a club."
