The 38-year-old ex-Russia football captain further called the war a 'catastrophe and complete horror'. 

The ex-captain of the Russian football team, Igor Denisov who condemned his country's invasion of Ukraine said he feared he could be 'jailed or killed' after speaking against the administration.

Igor Denisov who still lives in Russia is one of the few sports personalities who have openly spoken against Vladimir Putin's decision of invading Ukraine. In his interview with a sports journalist Nobel Arustamyan, Denisov who has 54 caps between 2008 to 2016 said, 'May be they'll put me in jail or kill me, but I'm telling it like it is'

The 38-year-old further called the war a 'catastrophe and complete horror'.

Soon after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th, Denisov wrote a letter to Putin expressing his opposition to the invasion. 'I also said to him that I am ready to go on my knees before you (Putin) so that he would stop it all', he further revealed.

The Russian government has ruled if any media organisation can be fined or blocked if they address the 'special military operation' as a war or invasion.
