Russia-Ukraine crisis: England not to compete against Russia, who can not compete under national flag

As England joins several other teams in refusing to play against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, FIFA has ordered Russia not to compete under its national flag

The England Football Association has announced that it will not play any matches against Russia in any international games "for the foreseeable future" following the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has qualified for the Women's European Championship which is being hosted by England in June.

The decision came after the Czech Republic joined Poland and Sweden in refusing to play Russia in the UEFA World Cup qualifying play-offs in March. Russia was due to host Poland in a play-off semi-final in Moscow on 24th March.

As a result, World Cup champions France has demanded that Russia should be expelled from the 2022 World Cup with three countries refusing to face them in the playoffs.

FIFA has also ordered Russia not to compete under its national flag and also made the decision to ban Russia from hosting any international match at home. A Russian Football Union team can only play on neutral territory and without spectators.
