'No football fan should experience it', UEFA apologises over chaos before Champions League final

UEFA in its apology statement said that 'no football fan should be put in that situation and it must not happen again' 

UEFA issued an apology to the spectators who had to 'experience or witness frightening or distressing events' before the Champions League between Real Madrid and Liverpool last week.

Despite having genuine tickets, several fans were unable to watch the high-octane final clash due to the mayhem caused outside Stade de France which also led to a 37-min delay at the beginning of the match. The French Police used Tear gas and pepper spray at the crowd which included children as well.

UEFA wishes to sincerely apologise to all spectators who had to experience or witness frightening and distressing events in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League final at the Stade de France on May 28, 2022, in Paris, on a night which should have been a celebration of European club football, the football body said in its apology statement adding that 'no football fan should be put in that situation and it must not happen again'

UEFA has launched an independent review in the matter to find out the shortcomings on the part of the organisers of the final event.

Real Madrid won their 14th Champions League final after defeating Liverpool by 1-0, last week.
