KL Rahul highlights India's mental shift in levelling series against South Africa

KL Rahul, reflecting on India's turnaround in the second Test against South Africa, credited a significant mental adjustment for the team's comeback after a disappointing performance in the series opener. The Indian squad, which suffered an innings and 32-run defeat in Centurion, made a remarkable comeback with a seven-wicket victory in just two days, resulting in a draw in the series.

Speaking to Star Sports, the 31-year-old cricketer admitted that India lacked the necessary intensity in the first match. "I think we weren't really 100 percent during our last match in terms of batting or bowling. We were prepared, but that extra edge or extra fire was missing, credit to South Africa as well, that they didn't allow us to reach to that confidence Rahul said, acknowledging the role of South Africa's robust play in challenging India's confidence.

Rahul praised the team for their swift recovery and shift in approach. He noted that while the team was prepared for the first Test, they weren't quite ready for the level of competition presented by South Africa. This realization, he said, was a jolt to the team, accustomed to competing and winning series abroad in recent years.

The criticism faced by India for their unpreparedness, evidenced by their modest scores and South Africa's strong batting in the first Test, led to a mental recalibration. "It was just a mental shift during the turnaround time of one day," Rahul explained, emphasizing the team's enhanced readiness and determination to win.

Rahul, who achieved a notable century in the first Test, conceded that the team did not perform up to their standards in Centurion. However, he expressed satisfaction with how they bounced back, demonstrating resilience and a strong desire to succeed.
