Days after winning Gold at the Commonwealth Games, Australia captain Meg Lanning has announced that she is taking an indefinite break from competitive cricket.

In a statement, Lanning said that she needed the break to take a step back and focus on herself after leading Australia to incredible successes over the last few years.

With no timeline set for her return, the World Cup-winning captain is unlikely to lead Australia during their tour of India later this year. The Southern Stars are slated to play five T20Is in December. She has also pulled out from the second edition of The Hundred, which is set to start on August 11.

30-year-old Lanning made her international debut in 2010 and was named captain in 2014. She has led Australia in 171 matches. Under her captaincy, Australia won the T20 and 50-over World Cups along with the Ashes victory over England.
