Bellingham, Foden Return for England World Cup Qualifiers

Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden make a comeback into England's squad for World Cup qualifiers. Coach Thomas Tuchel, despite prior omission, calls them crucial. England has qualified but seeks continued progress, introducing new names like Alex Scott.

Bellingham, Foden Return for England World Cup Qualifiers

London, Nov 7 (AP) Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have made their return to the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, as announced on Friday by head coach Thomas Tuchel.

The return of these highly talented attacking midfielders represents a significant boost for England. Tuchel had previously left them out, emphasizing the importance of team spirit and clarifying there were “no guarantees” for high-profile players.

Bellingham, back to full fitness after shoulder surgery, has been in stellar form for Real Madrid, netting goals in three of five appearances since the last international break. Foden has also been exceptional for Manchester City, particularly evidenced by his two-goal haul against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“Both players have been outstanding contributors to their clubs recently,” Tuchel remarked. “They play vital roles, scoring critical goals. We’re thrilled to have them back in form and with us.”

England, already securing a spot in the World Cup with a dominant 5-0 win against Latvia in October, has won all six of its qualifying matches, including an impressive 5-0 victory over Serbia. That match saw Morgan Rogers step into the No. 10 role in the absence of Bellingham and Foden.

Tuchel also noted that had qualification still been at stake, he would have chosen the same squad as the previous month, suggesting Bellingham and Foden must continue to prove themselves to regain starting positions.

“Our message remains: build on our progress and bring the same energy,” Tuchel stated. “Had it been necessary to secure qualification, the team selection would have remained unchanged.”

New faces include Bournemouth’s Alex Scott earning his first call-up and a recall for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, while notable omissions are Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. (AP)
