As per reports, an 80-year-old man was killed and two others injured when the detachable battery of an electric scooter, kept on charge inside a home in&nbsp;Telangana, exploded and triggered flames, causing burn injuries.

Police have registered an FIR against the e-scooter manufacturer Pure&nbsp;EV who has seen three incidents of battery fires recently. So far along with Pure,&nbsp;one Ola, two Okinawa, and 20 Jitendra EV scooters have caught fire.
This is not the first incident where a fire has claimed a life.&nbsp;In a second unfortunate event, a father and daughter were killed in the early hours of March 26 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, when an unknown type Okinawa electric scooter caught fire.

The govt has called for an expert panel to probe into the issue and Union minister&nbsp;Nitin Gadkari&nbsp;said the government will issue necessary orders on defaulting companies after receiving the report.

Electric scooter fire latest news: Electric scooter maker Okinawa Autotech said it is recalling 3,215 units of its Praise Pro scooters to check and fix any issue related to batteries with immediate effect.Okinawa has initiated the recall amid various instances of fire in electric two-wheelers across the country.
"The batteries will be checked for loose connectors or any damage and be repaired free of charge at any of the Okinawa authorised dealerships pan India," Okinawa Autotech stated.
The electric two-wheeler maker is working closely with its dealer partners to ensure that the repair experience is as per the convenience of its customers, for which the vehicle owners will be contacted individually, it noted.
"This voluntary campaign is in the wake of the recent thermal incident and in line with the company's long-standing commitment to customer safety," the company said. The government had ordered a probe last month after an e-scooter launched by Ola Electric caught fire in Pune.
The Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) had been asked to probe the circumstances that led to the incident and also suggest remedial measures, according to the road transport ministry.
The incident came to light after a video of the e-scooter engulfed in flame was widely circulated on social media with users raising questions over the safety standards of the vehicle.
Another electric vehicle maker Jitendra New EV Tech is also investigating the cause of its electric scooters catching fire while being transported in a container truck. The incident happened on April 9 near the company's factory gate at Nashik in Maharashtra.

Maruti Suzuki, India's top carmaker, announced Wednesday to hike vehicle prices in April 2022 owing to the rising input costs.
In an exchange filing, Maruti said, “Over the past year, the cost of Company's vehicles continue to be adversely impacted due to increase in various input costs. Therefore, it has become imperative for the Company to pass on some impact of the above additional costs to customers through a price hike. We have planned this price rise in April, 2022. The increase shall vary for different models."
Touching upon supply chain issues, Maruti Suzuki's Senior Executive Director Shashank Srivastava told PTI, the semiconductor shortage has led to huge pending orders in the industry. "We alone are sitting on pending bookings of around 2.7 lakh units. Rise in commodity prices also impacts the business. We have taken a price hike of around 8.8% from January 2021 till now."

We have to become self-reliant in fuels as well." The car is from Japan's Toyota company and the hydrogen fuel is from the Faridabad-based Indian Oil Pump. Mirai is a pilot project as India drives ahead aiming to become 'Atmanirbhar' in the energy sector. Gadkari said that introduction of green hydrogen which is generated from water will be revolutionary as imports will be curbed and jobs will be added as the sector booms. Nitin Gadkari has earlier urged his fellow parliamentarians to switch to electric vehicles and said if you are spending ₹100 now for fuel, you will be spending ₹10.

Making it clear that relaxations will not be provided to US-based electric vehicles major Tesla unless it participates in manufacturing activities in India, Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar on Tuesday said there cannot be a situation where the market is India but jobs are created in China.
The minister of state for heavy industries also told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that the company is yet to apply for schemes as per the government's policy.
Last year, the Elon Musk-led company sought a reduction in import duties on electric vehicles (EVs) in India but the Ministry of Heavy Industries asked the firm to start manufacturing its iconic EVs in the country before any tax concessions can be considered.
Gurjar said the government has Production Linked Incentives for automobile and auto components as well as for manufacturing Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery. Both schemes are open for domestic as well as foreign entities.
Responding to a query on Tesla, the minister said "the company wants workers from China and market of India. This is not possible in Modi government... our government's policy is that if india market is to be used, job opportunities will have to be given to Indians." The minister's reply came in response to a question by Congress member K Suresh on whether the government would invite Tesla to enter the Indian market and steps being taken to promote mass production of electric vehicles in the country.
"Want to ask the member if they want india's money to go to China? That company has not applied as per our policy. For that (company), doors of India are open, they can come apply as per policy, set up company, give jobs to our people, increase government revenue," the minister said.
"Modiji ki sarkar mein ye nahi ho sakta ki rozgar Cheen ko aur market Bharat ki... Modiji sarkar ki neeti hai ki agar market Bharat ki hai, rozgar bhi Bharat ke logon ko milega.... (Under Modi government, it cannot happen that jobs are in China while market is India... The government's policy is that if the market is India, then peope in India should get jobs)," Gurjar said.
He was responding to another member's query about the government's position on exemptions sought by Tesla and some states expressing interest to have the company's manufacturing units.

Making it clear that relaxations will not be provided to US-based electric vehicles major Tesla unless it participates in manufacturing activities in India, Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar on Tuesday said there cannot be a situation where the market is India but jobs are created in China.
The minister of state for heavy industries also told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that the company is yet to apply for schemes as per the government's policy.
Last year, the Elon Musk-led company sought a reduction in import duties on electric vehicles (EVs) in India but the Ministry of Heavy Industries asked the firm to start manufacturing its iconic EVs in the country before any tax concessions can be considered.
Gurjar said the government has Production Linked Incentives for automobile and auto components as well as for manufacturing Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery. Both schemes are open for domestic as well as foreign entities.
Responding to a query on Tesla, the minister said "the company wants workers from China and market of India. This is not possible in Modi government... our government's policy is that if india market is to be used, job opportunities will have to be given to Indians." The minister's reply came in response to a question by Congress member K Suresh on whether the government would invite Tesla to enter the Indian market and steps being taken to promote mass production of electric vehicles in the country.
"Want to ask the member if they want india's money to go to China? That company has not applied as per our policy. For that (company), doors of India are open, they can come apply as per policy, set up company, give jobs to our people, increase government revenue," the minister said.
"Modiji ki sarkar mein ye nahi ho sakta ki rozgar Cheen ko aur market Bharat ki... Modiji sarkar ki neeti hai ki agar market Bharat ki hai, rozgar bhi Bharat ke logon ko milega.... (Under Modi government, it cannot happen that jobs are in China while market is India... The government's policy is that if the market is India, then peope in India should get jobs)," Gurjar said.
He was responding to another member's query about the government's position on exemptions sought by Tesla and some states expressing interest to have the company's manufacturing units.

Incidents Of Explosions In Four Weeks
On March 26, the first fire incident came to light after a video of an Ola EV ablaze went viral on social media. The same day, a father and daughter duo were killed in an Okinawa electric scooter explosion in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. On March 30, an e-scooter manufactured by Pure EV caught fire. In another incident, on April 11, a container truck carrying 20 EVs owned by Jitendra Electric Vehicles caught fire in Nashik.
 On April 18, an Okinawa Autotech dealership was gutted to fire in Tamil Nadu, owing to a possible short circuit.
 In the recent and sixth fire incident which took place last week, a Pure EV explosion claimed the life of an 80-year-old, while two others sustained serious injuries.

<h3>Govt steps in</h3>
These 'voluntary' recalls were announced just as the&nbsp;&nbsp;Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari asked EV makers to take &ldquo;advance action&rdquo; immediately. Gadkari said the companies found negligent will be penalised. There is also a buzz that the govt is looking to douse the problem by coming out with a battery policy which will cover performance testing and manufacturing standards, along with heat resistance of these batteries.

The speculation around rising temperatures and batteries exploding have been rife. While it&rsquo;s easy to attribute the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/e-scooter-fires-nitin-gadkari-sends-stern-warning-urges-for-recall-1650604967468" target="_blank">EV fires</a> to rising temperatures, experts suggest looking at how a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is packed and designed. EVs are powered by Li-ion batteries, which are generally considered to be lightweight and efficient. However, they also pose a fire risk.

Some experts believe that the reason for EV scooters catching fire is a thermal runaway. Thermal runaway is a chain reaction within a battery cell that can be very difficult to stop once it has started. It occurs when the temperature inside a battery reaches the point that causes a chemical reaction to occur inside the battery. This chemical reaction produces even more heat, which drives the temperature higher, causing further chemical reactions that create more heat. Sudden acceleration or prolonged charging/fast charging of the vehicles can aggravate the issue.&nbsp;

Ola which has found itself in the #Trending section for the wrong reasons seems to have a troll army that is in gear to defend it when critique or complaints surface on social media. The Mint reports that a pattern of coordinated twitter handles were observed 'attacking' those who complained about Ola's products or raised critique in the product. The most glaring example came as responses when an aggrieved parent hit out at Ola. Balwant Singh whose son was injured due to an alleged malfunctioning of an Ola scooter took to social media to ask the company to take onus. But Singh found himself at the receiving end as over 50 twitter users downplayed the injuries with some even accusing Balwant of trying to 'blackmail' Ola. Investigation done by Mint also throw up over Mint 100 Twitter accounts that only like, retweet, and applaud tweets that are positive about Ola Electric’s self-driving experiment as well praise filled information for founder Bhavish Aggarwal.

After the latest and fifth incident of a PURE manufactured e-scooter catching fire which claimed one life, the Hyderabad-based startup has initiated the recall of 2,000 e-scooters to check imbalance issues in batteries and chargers.
“In view of the recent fire incidents involving our vehicles in Nizamabad and Chennai, PURE EV has decided to recall 2,000 vehicles from the models ETrance Plus and EPluto7G of the concerned batches,” the company said in a statement.All customers will be contacted via the dealership network to voluntarily come and do a 'health check-up' for stakeholders. 
This comes after Okinawa Autotech announced the recall of  over 3000 Praise Pro e-scooters on April 16 to fix issues related to its batteries, just before its dealership was engulfed in flames in Chennai.

EV fire latest news : With increasing incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said the government will issue necessary orders on defaulting companies after receiving the report of an expert panel that has been formed to enquire into the matter.
In a series of tweets, Gadkari said several mishaps involving electric two-wheelers have come to light in the last two months.
"We have constituted an expert committee to enquire into these incidents and make recommendations on remedial steps.
"Based on the reports, we will issue necessary orders on the defaulting companies," the road transport and highways minister said.
Gadkari added: "We will soon issue quality-centric guidelines for Electric Vehicles." The minister asserted that if any company is found negligent in its processes, a heavy penalty will be imposed and a recall of all defective vehicles will also be ordered.
Meanwhile, companies may take advance action to recall all defective batches of vehicles immediately, Gadkari tweeted. "Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji, our government is committed to ensure safety of each and every commuter," he tweeted.
