IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants' winning mantra - 'Focus on all-rounders & batting depth'

After crushing Mumbai Indians for the 2nd time in IPL 2022, Lucknow Super Giants are in the top half of the points table with 5 wins in 8 matches this season

The Lucknow Super Giants might be new to the Indian Premier League but the team is already looking like one of the best in business after they crushed Mumbai Indians for the 2nd time in the tournament on Sunday night. The 5-time winners, struggling with their own problems, had no idea what hit them as Lucknow walked away with 2 points to reach the top half of the points table with 5 wins from 8 matches.

Captain KL Rahul who has already smashed 2 hundreds in the tournament lavished praise on his team. KL in the post-match press conference praised the team's all-round skills as well as the batting depth. He said, "We were very clear going into the auctions, I'm big on having all-rounders in the team. Having them in the team makes my life easier with options".

While Rahul smashed his 2nd ton of the tournament which set the stage for the team, the bowlers defended the target with ease as Mumbai fell short by 36 runs.

Mohsin Khan playing his 2nd IPL game for Lucknow was economical along with Dushantha Chameera who gave away just 14 runs from his 4 overs and bowled the crucial 19th over with supreme confidence. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as the all-rounder ran through Mumbai's middle order with 3 wickets for just 19 runs.

Bowling coach Andy Bichel praised the bowling effort and said, "Dushmantha (Chameera) was unbelievable. He was just amazing in that 19th over, just shut the whole game down. Jason (Holder), yeah, he's had so much experience. He knows the opposition very, very well. He likes to create angles on the ball and you know, he did that with effect and really closed it out for us. So, you know, he's done it in a number of matches now, so he's growing in confidence, but 'Dushie' at the end there was just amazing. When you're bowling at such high-quality batsmen and to be able to shut them down like that, it was pretty cool".

While KL Rahul and the bowlers set up a superb win for the IPL debutants, the batters need to step up for Lucknow Super Giants. KL Rahul did the bulk of the scoring while maintaining a superb strike rate, but the other batters failed to deliver which meant that Lucknow had a below-par total on the board.
